Getting There

By air: The fastest and most common approach for international visitors. Multiple small airstrips serve different parts of the park: Seronera (central), Kogatende (north), Ndutu (south), and several others. Charter flights from Arusha (about 45 minutes to Seronera) are the standard, typically arranged through your safari operator as part of a package. Coastal Aviation, Air Excel, and Auric Air are the main operators. Direct scheduled services also run from Kilimanjaro Airport to Seronera.

By road from Arusha: The main road entrance at Naabi Hill Gate in the south requires driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From Arusha via Karatu and the Ngorongoro crater rim to Naabi Gate is about 5 to 6 hours. A second entrance at Ikoma Gate serves the western corridor. All road approaches require a 4WD — ordinary cars cannot handle the park tracks, particularly after rain.

Practical: Park fees for non-residents are among the highest in Tanzania (currently over 70 USD per person per 24 hours, plus vehicle fees). All fees are paid by cash or card at the gates. Most visitors enter as part of an organised safari including accommodation, transport, and fees; independent visiting is logistically complex but possible.
