The flatter savanna country in the centre and west of the park is the easiest place to see game. A handful of vehicle tracks loop through open grassland and acacia scrub where antelope (kob, hartebeest, bushbuck, occasionally roan), warthog and baboon are reasonably common, and where it is much easier to spot animals at distance than in the forest.
The park can sometimes arrange a 4×4 from the headquarters; if not, you will need your own vehicle (something with reasonable clearance) or to fall back on long walks. Early mornings and late afternoons are by far the most productive — animals retreat into cover during the heat of the day. Rangers know the recently used waterholes and waiting near one for an hour at dawn is often the single best tactic.
