Dougga is in the Tunisian interior, about 110 km southwest of Tunis and 5 km from the modern town of Téboursouk. By car the drive from Tunis takes about 2 hours via the A3 motorway and then the P5.
Without a car, the standard approach is to take a louage (shared minibus) from Tunis-Bab Saadoun to Téboursouk (about 1.5 hours), then negotiate a taxi for the 10-minute hop up to the site. Allow 4–5 hours in total for the round trip from Tunis if you go by public transport. Most travellers without a car prefer to take an organised day trip, which usually combines Dougga with Bulla Regia.
