Al Bey Mosque

The Al Bey Mosque is a smaller mosque within the medina, notable for its Ottoman-era architectural details and its minaret, which differs from the square Aghlabid style of the Great Mosque minaret. It represents the later phases of Kairouan's Islamic architecture, reflecting the influence of the Hafsid and Ottoman periods after the Aghlabid dynasty.

As with most active mosques in Tunisia, non-Muslims may not enter, but the exterior, the courtyard glimpsed through the doorway, and the minaret are worth a look. The mosque sits in one of the more animated parts of the medina, and the area around it has several good coffee shops at which to rest.
