The islands are flat and small — Gharbi is about 8 km long, Chergui about 16 km — and most visitors get around by bicycle. Hotels at Sidi Frej rent them by the day for very little money. The roads are quiet and the landscape opens out in every direction.
Louages (shared minibus taxis) run between the main settlements and from the ferry port at Mellita to Remla and Sidi Frej. They are infrequent but cheap. A few hotels arrange boats out to nearby uninhabited islets — Roumadiya, Chergui Sghir, and others — for the day, with lunch on the beach. These are highly recommended in the warm months.
