Sidi Frej is the small concentration of hotels and the closest thing the Kerkennah Islands have to a tourist resort. It sits on the northern shore of Chergui, the eastern island, and consists of a long sandy beach, a handful of low-rise hotels mostly built in the 1970s and 80s, and a few small restaurants serving grilled fish.
This is where most international visitors stay. The atmosphere is low-key and entirely Tunisian and French — there are no high-rise resorts and no chain hotels, and most of the guests are repeat visitors. The beach is long and shallow, good for swimming with children. Boats moored at the small jetty take visitors out to see the charfia fishing weirs or to nearby uninhabited islets for the day.
