The Dar Jellouli Museum — officially the Regional Museum of Arts and Folk Traditions — occupies a magnificent 17th-century mansion in the heart of the medina. The house itself is the main attraction: a classic example of Sfaxian domestic architecture, with ornate carved stucco, painted wood ceilings, elaborate tilework, and a central courtyard fountain that keeps the interior cool even in summer.
The collections inside document the material culture of the Sfax region: embroidered silk costumes, silver jewellery, traditional weapons, painted wooden chests, and examples of the distinctive Sfax style of ceramics. The museum is one of the best regional folk museums in Tunisia, and the building alone is worth the admission fee. Labels are in Arabic and French.
