Sfax-Thyna International Airport is about 7 km from the city centre. Domestic flights connect to Tunis, and there are some international services. Shared taxis (louages) from the airport to the centre are the most practical option.
By train, Sfax is on the main SNCFT line between Tunis and Gabès. The journey from Tunis takes about 3.5 hours and is more comfortable than the bus. The station is near the centre of the new town.
Louage (shared taxi) connections run to Tunis, Sousse, Gabès, and other major cities from the northern bus and louage station. These are faster than trains and buses for most routes. Buses from the main bus station serve most of the country.
The ferry to the Kerkennah Islands leaves from the port, about 1 km from the medina, several times a day. The crossing takes about 70 minutes.
