The Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe — still commonly called the Queen Victoria Museum after its colonial-era name — occupies a large building near the city centre and houses one of the more comprehensive natural history collections in southern Africa. Exhibits cover Zimbabwean wildlife, geology, and entomology, with mounted specimens of the country's major mammals and an interesting section on Zimbabwe's mineral wealth.
The museum is worth an hour, particularly for the wildlife displays if you are heading to the national parks and want to familiarise yourself with local species. The building itself is somewhat worn, a reflection of the economic constraints the institution has operated under in recent decades, but the collection has real substance.
