The Foladi Valley runs south from Bamiyan town into the foothills of the Koh-e Baba range, opening into a wide green basin of Hazara villages, traditional flat-roofed houses, walnut and apricot orchards, and a slow-moving river. It is a useful day's walk from Bamiyan to see the rural Hazara way of life — wheat fields, water mills, and the women weaving carpets in courtyards. The road is unpaved but passable in summer.
