Angkor Wat is best visited in the afternoon when the sinking sun lights up its west-facing main gate. Many visitors also arrive just before dawn to watch the first light bounce off the towers as the sun rises behind the temple. The wider Angkor complex holds dozens of temples spread across the forest — you could spend a week here and still miss things.
