Battambang rewards a slow approach. The city itself has French colonial architecture and a pleasant riverside, but most of the major attractions are a short tuk-tuk ride into the countryside — hilltop temples, killing caves turned to memorials, and the famous bamboo railway. Give it at least two full days.
