Sorya Shopping Center

Phnom Penh's first modern mall, still a useful local landmark

When Sorya opened in 2002 it was the city's first proper air-conditioned shopping mall, complete with bowling alley, food court, and an ice rink. It has long since been overtaken by AEON and the riverside malls, but remains useful for local shopping — phone accessories, fashion, household goods — and the top-floor food court is a good cheap lunch stop in the Central Market area.

The rooftop bowling alley is endearingly out of date. The mall is genuinely Cambodian rather than expat, which makes it worth half an hour of wandering.
