Stung Treng is on National Road 7, roughly 500 km from Phnom Penh and 40 km south of the Lao border. Several bus companies run daily services from Phnom Penh (8–10 hours) and from Siem Reap. Most travellers on the Laos–Cambodia overland route cross at the Trapaing Kreal/Nong Nok Khiene border crossing north of town; tuk-tuks and taxis meet buses and border-crossing vehicles in town.
The airstrip at Stung Treng has seen sporadic domestic services but was not regularly operating as of 2025. Road is the reliable option.
