The best-known of Wudaokou's student clubs and an institution among foreign exchange students for the better part of two decades, Propaganda occupies a ground-floor lounge and a sweaty basement dancefloor at the east gate of Huaqing Jiayuan. The formula has barely changed: hip-hop and chart hits, drinks priced for students, and a crowd that fills out as the campuses empty for the night.
Nobody comes for the décor or the cocktails — they come because it is cheap, central, and reliably busy when the more polished bars of Sanlitun are winding down. It sets the tone for a quarter whose nightlife runs late and on a budget.
