Sanlitun SOHO

Cluster of curving Zaha Hadid-style towers with offices, shops, and basement food courts

A complex of nine sinuous, brightly lit towers rising over the southern edge of Sanlitun, built in 2010 to a design of flowing curved facades that has become a minor landmark of the district's twenty-first-century redevelopment. The towers mix offices and apartments above a retail and dining podium, with sunken plazas and a sprawling basement of restaurants and food stalls.

It is more a place to eat or run an errand than a destination in itself, and parts can feel underused. But the lit-up towers are a striking sight after dark, and the basement food court is a reliable, cheap option when the restaurants around Taikoo Li are full.
