Chongwu is about sixty kilometers from Quanzhou city center, reached in roughly ninety minutes by bus from Quanzhou bus station. Buses depart regularly throughout the day. Shared taxis and private car hire from Quanzhou are also available and take about an hour. The town is in Hui'an County, and bus services also connect it to the county seat at Hui'an.
Most visitors come as a day trip from Quanzhou, which is the right approach: Chongwu is worth a morning or afternoon but not an overnight unless you have a specific interest in the architecture or the coast. The old town is compact and entirely walkable once you arrive. The entrance to the historic area involves a small admission fee.
