Longyan's real draws lie outside the city itself. The Yongding Tulou — the great earthen roundhouses of the Hakka — are the main reason most visitors come at all, and the surrounding countryside holds granite gorges, hot springs, and the rarely-visited Liancheng scenic area. The city itself has limited sights but gives a genuine picture of a non-touristified Chinese regional centre.
