Putian has a high-speed rail station on the Fuzhou–Xiamen line, with trains to Fuzhou in about 40 minutes and to Xiamen in just over an hour. The station is on the eastern outskirts of the city, connected to the centre and to the Meizhou ferry pier by bus and taxi. The ferry to Meizhou Island departs from the Meizhou Pier (湄洲港) about 40 kilometres from the city centre — allow around 40 minutes by taxi or an hour by local bus.
