Jiuli Lake is a scenic area in Xianyou County, west of Putian, known for its lake-and-waterfall landscape. The main appeal is the sequence of waterfalls dropping through forested rock, with paths that make it a more natural outing than Putian's urban temples and food streets.
Allow several hours if you are coming from the city. The waterfalls are best after rain, while summer makes the cool gorge especially welcome; in dry periods the setting is still pleasant, but less dramatic.
