Zuojiang Leaning Pagoda

Ming-era leaning pagoda on a river island near Chongzuo

The Zuojiang Leaning Pagoda, also called Guilong Pagoda, stands on a small island in the Zuojiang River northeast of Chongzuo. Built in the Ming period, it has become known for its visible tilt, a Chinese counterpart to the more famous leaning towers of Europe.

The setting is half the appeal: river, karst country, and a solitary brick tower rather than a dense temple precinct. It is worth including if you are already exploring Chongzuo's landscapes and borderland history, though it is too far from the centre to treat as a quick city stroll.
