Yangshuo has an unusually wide food range for a town its size: the backpacker cafés on West Street serve pancakes and pasta, but the local Guilin cuisine is worth seeking out in the side streets and on the road toward the bus station. Beer fish (pijiu yu) — fresh river fish cooked in local beer with chilli and fermented black bean — is the dish specific to this stretch of the Li River.
