When to Go

Lingshui's southeastern coast faces the open Pacific fetch and has a wetter climate than the sheltered southwestern coast around Sanya. The drier season runs roughly November through April; the wet season (May through October) brings significant rainfall and occasional typhoons, though the coast is warm year-round. For beach visits, November through March is ideal — calm seas, moderate temperatures, and fewer tourists. Surfing is best from September through November when consistent swells arrive from the Pacific.

The Nanwan Monkey Island cable car and reserve operate year-round. The Diaoluoshan rainforest nature reserve in the hills above the coast is most rewarding during and just after the wet season, when the forest is at peak green and streams are full.
