Mohe is genuinely remote. By the standards of Chinese domestic travel, reaching it requires serious planning.
By air: Mohe Gulian Airport has flights to and from Harbin and a handful of other Chinese cities. Flights are infrequent and should be booked well in advance, particularly during the winter aurora season and the summer solstice period when demand spikes.
By train: The train from Harbin takes approximately 12 hours. This is the classic approach and gives a real sense of the journey through the boreal forest. Sleeper berths are available and recommended — the train is the most atmospheric way to arrive, especially if you can time the last hours to arrive in daylight and watch the forest thicken as you move north.
By road: Long-distance buses connect Mohe to other Heilongjiang cities, but journey times are long and road conditions in winter can be difficult. Self-driving is possible in summer but winter driving on provincial roads here requires experience and preparation.
