Baogong Memorial Temple is dedicated to Bao Zheng, the Northern Song official whose reputation for incorruptible justice made him a fixture of Chinese opera, television, and popular moral storytelling. In Kaifeng, where Song history is never far away, the temple gives that legend a physical setting beside Baogong Lake.
The complex is compact but useful if you want Kaifeng to be more than city walls and reconstructed imperial scenery. Look for the way Bao is presented as both historical administrator and folk hero; that blend is the real subject of the visit.
