Dragon's Back Trail

Ridgeline hike with sweeping South China Sea views

Address To Tei Wan, Shek O, Hong Kong Island

Dragon's Back was named Asia's best urban hike by Time magazine, and the claim holds up. The trail follows a ridgeline on the southeastern corner of Hong Kong Island with views over the South China Sea to the east and Stanley Peninsula to the west. Most hikers do the 8.5km route from To Tei Wan to Big Wave Bay in around three hours, finishing at the beach.

Take the MTR to Shau Kei Wan (Island Line), then bus 9 to To Tei Wan. The start of the trail is well signposted. Big Wave Bay has a small surf scene and a couple of cafes at the end. The trail is relatively easy, but bring water and sunscreen — it's exposed on the ridge.
