Golden Bauhinia Square

Golden Bauhinia Square marks the 1997 handover ceremony, when the United Kingdom returned Hong Kong to China. The gilded bauhinia sculpture is the set-piece monument, but the square is also a useful harbourfront stop beside the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Come at 8AM for the daily flag-raising ceremony, or later in the evening for skyline views across Victoria Harbour. It is more symbolic than beautiful, but it helps explain why this stretch of Wan Chai waterfront matters.
