Po Lin Monastery

Major Buddhist monastery below the Big Buddha on Lantau

Founded in 1906 by three monks from Jiangsu province, Po Lin is now one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong. The main hall houses three bronze Buddha statues, and the grounds are immaculately kept. The vegetarian lunch in the monastery restaurant is good value and worth the trip even without the Big Buddha above. The Ngong Ping 360 gondola from Tung Chung drops you right at the entrance.
