Goldfish Market

Hundreds of tanks of ornamental fish in a narrow Mong Kok alley

The Goldfish Market on the north end of Tung Choi Street is one of Mong Kok's most distinctive spots — a narrow alley where every shop and stall is stacked floor to ceiling with tanks of ornamental fish, koi, turtles, and aquatic plants. The light is dim, the air damp and oxygenated, and the sound of gurgling water constant. Goldfish are considered lucky in Cantonese culture, which explains the density of supply in a city this size.

Worth combining with a walk down the southern section of Tung Choi Street, where the Ladies' Market operates in the afternoon, and the nearby Flower Market Road. Prince Edward MTR.
