Hong Kong's most popular Taoist temple, visited by over three million worshippers a year. The temple was built in 1973 to traditional principles — red pillars, golden roof, blue friezes, yellow lattice — and is dedicated to Wong Tai Sin, a legendary shepherd who learned the art of healing. The main draw is fortune-telling: worshippers shake numbered sticks from a bamboo container before the altar and take the corresponding stick to a soothsayer at one of the booths around the perimeter. The activity covers everything from business decisions to race tips.
The grounds also contain a Buddhist goddess of mercy hall, a Confucian hall, the Nine Dragon Garden (with a replica of the Nine Dragons mural from Beijing's Imperial Palace), and a clinic with both Western and traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Take the MTR to Wong Tai Sin station (Kwun Tong Line), Exit B2.
