The Zhenjiang Museum occupies the former British Consulate and adjoining buildings in the Xijindu historic district — an appropriate setting for a museum in a city that was once a treaty port. The collection covers local history from the Bronze Age through the Republican period, with particular strength in Han Dynasty artifacts and material from the city's commercial heyday as a Yangtze crossing point.
The bronze collection is the most notable: Zhenjiang's vicinity has yielded important Bronze Age finds, and the museum displays ritual vessels and weapons from the Western Zhou period alongside explanatory material about the ancient Yue culture that inhabited this region before Chinese unification. The building itself — solid late Victorian brick — is architecturally interesting and well-preserved.
