Shangqing Ancient Town sits within the Mount Longhu scenic area and gives the mountain's Taoist history a lived-in setting. The town is associated with the Zhengyi school of Taoism and lies close to major religious sites such as Tianshi Mansion and Shangqing Palace, with old lanes running toward the Luxi River.
It is a useful stop because Mount Longhu can otherwise feel like a sequence of shuttle-bus sights. Shangqing lets you slow down, walk past riverfront houses and temple approaches, and connect the landscape to the communities that grew around its sacred reputation. Expect a managed scenic-town atmosphere rather than a forgotten village.
