Wentang Hot Springs

Wentang, the town at the base of Mingyue Mountain, has developed around selenium-rich hot springs that have been channelled into resort facilities catering mainly to Chinese domestic visitors. The selenium content — higher here than in most hot spring destinations in Jiangxi — is marketed for its supposed health properties, though the warmth of the water after a day of hiking is argument enough for most people.

The resort facilities range from modest guesthouses with private thermal baths to larger spa hotels. The town functions as the main overnight base for Mingyue Mountain visitors. Outside the formal resort zone, the surrounding agricultural landscape has a quieter appeal — terraced fields, river valleys, and the gradual approach of the mountain above. A soak in the evening after a day on the mountain trails is the obvious way to use the place.
