Hunchun is two hours by road from Yanji, the main city in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. Most visitors arrive as part of a Yanbian itinerary. Buses run regularly between Yanji and Hunchun throughout the day.
Yanji itself is connected to the national rail network and has an airport with domestic connections to Beijing and other major cities. The high-speed rail from Changchun to Yanji takes about two hours, making the full journey from Changchun to Hunchun achievable in half a day.
Border crossings into Russia and North Korea from Hunchun require prior arrangement and the appropriate visas — the crossings are not tourist entry points and cannot be used for spontaneous travel.
