Longshou Mountain

Longshou Mountain — Dragon Head Mountain — rises at the edge of the city centre and offers a straightforward climb with views over the Dongliao River valley and the urban spread below. The mountain is not large by the standards of the region, but it is accessible without transport and provides welcome elevation for anyone who wants a physical anchor to their visit.

The name refers to the mountain's profile when seen from a distance, which is said to resemble a reclining dragon's head. A network of paths runs across the hillside and there are small viewpoints at various elevations. The walk up and back takes an hour or two at a relaxed pace. In autumn the hillside foliage turns in the standard northeastern fashion — reds and oranges against the grey-brown hills — and provides the most photogenic version of Liaoyuan's landscape.
