Nanhu Park

Nanhu Park occupies the centre of Siping's eastern district and is the city's most-used green space. A lake sits at the heart of the park, circled by paths and dotted with pavilions in the standard Chinese park style. In summer the park fills with families, older residents playing chess or practising tai chi, and children on the various rides and activities near the lake.

The park is not a major tourist draw but it is a pleasant place to pass an hour and to observe the ordinary rhythms of a Chinese provincial city. The surrounding area — Tiedong District — has the commercial character of a city centre that rebuilt itself after the war without preserving much of the older fabric. The park provides a green break in that urban grid.
