Songyuan's draws are mostly outside the urban core — the river confluence, the grasslands to the west, and above all Chagan Lake, which hosts one of China's most spectacular traditional fishing events each winter. The city itself is the base for exploring northern Jilin's flat, cold, and undervisited landscape.
