Liaoyang is on the Beijing–Harbin high-speed rail line and is an easy trip from Shenyang — about twenty minutes by high-speed train. The station is in the northwest of the city, about three kilometres from the White Pagoda. Trains also run south to Dalian in under two hours. The proximity to Shenyang makes Liaoyang a natural half-day excursion from the provincial capital, and it is often visited as a day trip rather than an overnight stop.
Local buses and taxis cover the city centre efficiently.
