Tongchuan is easy to reach from Xi'an by bus in about an hour. Buses depart frequently from Xi'an's northern bus terminals and arrive at Tongchuan's central bus station. The city is on the Yanchang Expressway (G65W) north of Xi'an.
By train, Tongchuan is connected by local services to Xi'an but not currently by high-speed rail. For most visitors from Xi'an, the bus is faster and more convenient.
From Tongchuan to the sites: - Yaowang Mountain is in Yaozhou District, about 1.5 kilometres from the Yaozhou town centre — accessible by bus or taxi from Tongchuan. - The Yaozhou Kiln Museum is in Huangbao Town, about fifteen kilometres north of central Tongchuan. Buses run between the city and Huangbao. - Chenlu Ancient Town is fifteen kilometres southeast of Yintai District; taxis or private hire are the most practical option.
Tongchuan can be done as a day trip from Xi'an, visiting either Yaowang Mountain or the Yaozhou Kiln complex. Visiting both sites properly warrants staying overnight.
