Yulin Drum Tower is a compact landmark in the old urban core, the kind of structure that gives a northern Chinese city a visible historical centre of gravity. Its tiered roof and raised form stand apart from the newer streets around it.
It is a short stop, but a useful one while walking central Yulin. Use it as a marker for the older townscape and as a reminder that this edge-of-the-Ordos city has more texture than its modern coal and desert reputation suggests.
