Taierzhuang Canal Wetland Park

The Canal Wetland Park at the edge of Taierzhuang was the first national wetland park in China to be built around the theme of canal wetlands — the ecosystem that developed along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal over centuries of use and gradual abandonment. The park covers a substantial area of reeds, shallow lakes, and canal-side vegetation, and supports over 1,000 species of plants and animals.

For visitors spending more than a day in Taierzhuang, the wetland park provides a useful counterpoint to the historical intensity of the town and memorial hall. Boat tours run through the reed beds, and the birdlife includes herons, egrets, and various migratory species in season. The park is at its most appealing in spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the vegetation is either fresh or turning.
