Pu Songling Former Residence preserves the home village setting of the Qing-dynasty writer best known for Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. The complex is modest rather than palatial, but that suits an author whose supernatural stories grew out of scholars, ghosts, fox spirits, and village life.
For travellers, the residence is Zibo's most distinctive literary stop. Exhibits and courtyards give context for Pu's work, while the surrounding area makes it easier to imagine the social world that fed his tales of the uncanny.
