Beiwudang Mountain is in Fangshan County, administered by Lüliang City, about 120 km west of Taiyuan. The most practical route from Taiyuan is a direct bus to Fangshan County town (roughly 2–3 hours), from where shared minivans or local taxis cover the final stretch up into the mountains to the base of the trail. Buses from Taiyuan's main long-distance bus station depart in the morning; confirm times locally as services are infrequent.
Driving is faster and gives more flexibility for the return trip. The mountain road is paved to the base area but becomes a rough track above the first parking area. Minibuses from the village at the base carry visitors to the lower temple area if you do not want to walk the full approach.
