Foding Shan is the high point of Mount Putuo, the Buddhist island sacred to Guanyin. The climb rises from the temple-and-beach circuit toward Huiji Temple, trading ferry crowds and incense smoke for forest, steps, and views over the island.
Pilgrims often treat the ascent as part of the devotional route, while practical travellers can use the cable car if time or knees are short. Either way, Foding Shan helps explain Putuo's appeal as both a mountain pilgrimage and a sea island.
