Shunxi Ancient Village lies in the hills west of Pingyang's main towns. Its appeal is the slower one of old houses, stone lanes, courtyards, and terraces rather than a single headline monument.
It works best as part of a car-based loop through the inland county, especially with South Yandang Mountain. Go for the texture of rural southern Zhejiang: damp hills, old timber and masonry, and village life that feels far from Wenzhou's factories and high-rises.
