Tiantai County is served by Tiantai North station on the high-speed rail line between Hangzhou and Wenzhou, with frequent trains from both cities. The journey from Hangzhou takes under an hour; from Wenzhou it is about forty minutes. From the station, buses and taxis run to Guoqing Temple at the mountain's base, a journey of around twenty minutes.
For travellers arriving from Ningbo, buses run directly to Tiantai town in about ninety minutes. The mountain is also reachable from Taizhou city, the prefectural capital, in about an hour by bus.
