Larnaca's beaches stretch along the coast in both directions from the airport. The sand here is darker than the white strands of Ayia Napa — coarser and more natural-looking. East of the airport, beaches like Finikoudes and Mackenzie are well-organised with sunbeds, Blue Flag ratings, and wavebreakers that keep the water calm. West of the airport, the shore is less developed and quieter.
The real surprise is inland. A system of salt lakes sits just west of the city, and the swamp-like Voroklini Lake lies to the east. Both dry out in summer, but from autumn through spring they fill with water and migrating flamingos — the birdwatching can be exceptional. The Larnaca Salt Lake trail is an easy walk with good viewing points.
