Church of the Archangel Michael

The Church of the Archangel Michael is the most prominent building in Pano Lefkara, its bell tower visible from the approach road. The interior contains an iconostasis of carved gilded wood and a collection of icons, some of which date from the Byzantine period. The church is the spiritual and social heart of the village — the square in front of it is where locals gather in the evenings and where the village's festivals are held.

The building itself reflects the layered history of Cyprus: foundations from the medieval period, alterations from the Venetian and Ottoman eras, and modern restorations. The square around it is shaded by mature trees and lined with coffee houses. On feast days, the church fills for services that bring back Lefkarans who have moved to Nicosia or Limassol.
