Ongole is the obvious gateway to Prakasham district. The town sits directly on the Chennai–Vijayawada–Kolkata railway corridor, one of the busiest lines in India, so trains in both directions are frequent and easy. The journey from Chennai takes around five hours; from Vijayawada about two and a half.
The Chennai–Kolkata National Highway (NH16) also runs through Ongole, with buses linking it to Vijayawada, Nellore, Tirupati, and Chennai. There is no airport in the district; the nearest options are Vijayawada (about 170 km north) and Tirupati (about 190 km south).
From Ongole, local buses and shared autos serve the smaller towns, but for the more remote temples and the western part of the district a hired car is far quicker.
