Vizianagaram is well-served by rail. The Vizianagaram Junction station is on the main Chennai–Kolkata line, and express trains stop here regularly. From Visakhapatnam (Vizag), the journey takes 45–60 minutes; from Kolkata, around 12 hours. From Chennai it is approximately 16 hours. The station is in the south of the town, about 2 km from the fort.
By road, NH16 (the old NH5) runs through the town, and state and private buses connect Vizianagaram to Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and points north and south. The bus stand is central. Shared autorickshaws and cycle rickshaws move around town; private autos can be hired for the day to cover the fort and nearby sights.
The nearest airport is Visakhapatnam (VTZ), about 70 km south. Taxis and buses connect the airport to Vizianagaram.
